I have 20 years’ professional experience in healthcare social work, counseling and spiritual care. I have worked with adolescents and adults of all ages in hospital, hospice, PACE, homecare and assisted and skilled living settings. My experience is not just professional, but profoundly personal. I have been a caregiver for family members with dementia and Huntington’s Disease.
I use a strengths-based, teamwork approach to counseling and education. I want to work in partnership with you to understand and meet your unique needs, according to your learning and growth styles. I am as interested in using what is working in your life as what isn’t. I seek to put my specialized knowledge and skills at the service of your own wisdom and experience, to help you find wellbeing.
I hold a Master of Social Work (MSW) degree from the University of Denver and a Clinical Social Work License (LSCW), Colorado’s highest social work credential. I am also a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional (CCTP) with the International Association of Trauma Professionals, and regularly complete continuing education and training to keep up with the latest knowledge and skills in my areas of focus.
I also have a Master of Divinity (MDiv) degree from the Iliff School of Theology and four units of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE), specific training to provide spiritual support in clinical settings, to people of diverse spiritual backgrounds. If you desire and request to include your faith or spirituality in counseling, I can provide support that is both clinically sound and supportive of your beliefs and values. I can also make referrals to or collaborate with other communities and leaders who may serve your spiritual needs.
My expertise has resulted in me being invited to present locally, regionally and nationally on health care counseling, spiritual care and professional competence topics. I am currently an affiliate faculty member and content expert in the Master of Arts (M.A.) in Counseling program at Colorado Christian University. In May 2016 I was awarded by Colorado Christian University as the “Outstanding Faculty for Humanities and Social Sciences.” I have also served as a professional internship supervisor for graduate students of the University of Denver, Newman University and New England University. I currently serve on the advisory board for the University of Denver Graduate School of Social Work’s PROGRESS program (Providing Real Opportunities for Gero-Rich Experience in Social Work Services) and on community-based coalitions to improve health care coordination and services for medical patients, older adults and caregivers.
